What is applied kinesiology? |
|
Applied kinesiology (AK) is a method of assessment based on the clinical
research of George J. Goodheart, Jr., DC, DIBAK and employs manual
muscle testing as an extension of functional neurology. It serves to
assist doctors in refining their physical exam in order to direct
treatment in the most appropriate and efficient fashion, especially when
numerous treatment options are available. It draws together the core
elements of seemingly disparate disciplines, including but not limited
to, osteopathic and chiropractic adjustments, craniosacral manipulation,
acupuncture meridian therapy, myofascial techniques, clinical nutrition
and more. AK, when combined with standard diagnostic methods,
represents a non-invasive system of evaluating function that is unique
in the healing arts and has become a dynamic movement in healthcare in
its relatively short existence.
Other “muscle testing” and “kinesiology” methodologies in existence are
practiced by some clinicians and lay healers and have inaccurately been
likened to applied kinesiology by unenlightened observers. However,
professional applied kinesiology, as taught by the International College
of Applied Kinesiology (www.icak.com),
is practiced only by healthcare professionals licensed to diagnose. |
