Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine. The most common type – idiopathic
scoliosis – affects approximately 2-3% of the population and is most
common in adolescents. Given the high prevalence of this condition, we
recommend that all children be screened for scoliosis beginning at age
10, so that appropriate treatment, if needed, can be undertaken early.
Allopathic treatment of scoliosis may include surgical procedures such
as Harrington rods and spinal fusion, as well as rigid braces such as
the Boston and Milwaukee braces. Triad Health Center offers
comprehensive scoliosis care options, including serving as the only
Sacramento area provider for the revolutionary SpineCor brace - the
first and only truly dynamic soft brace. Developed by orthopedic
surgeons in 1992 as a brace for mild to moderate curves in adolescents,
it has outperformed hard shell braces in recent studies (J Pediatr
Orthop 2007; 27:375-379). Currently, it is under investigation for
potential use in more severe curves, as well as a pain-relief option for
adults with scoliosis. For more information, contact us or log on to
