What is the
Triad of Health?
|
|
The Triad of Health is a philosophical axiom of applied kinesiology. The
“triad”, or triangle, is composed of three sides – the structural
side, the chemical side and the mental side. It is believed that the
cause of most, if not all, human afflictions can be traced to aberrance
in one or more of these categories:
-
“Structural” refers to the bodily frame that supports us (including
muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments and so forth) which can be
affected by trauma – both recent and ancient, macro and micro – as
well as lack of proper exercise and other factors.
-
“Chemical” refers to the body’s basic physiological and biochemical
workings (including hormonal balance and the utilization of
nutrients) and can be altered by the ingestion of environmental
toxins, improper nutrition, drugs, etc.
-
“Mental” refers to the third leg of the triangle and recognizes that
emotional and psychological stressors can be contributing or even
primary factors in the manifestation of a particular condition.
There is a great deal of interaction between the three legs of the
triad. Chemistry can affect structure, such as an anti-inflammatory
pharmaceutical (a chemical compound) being used to ease the pain of a
twisted ankle (a structural issue). Similarly, a jog in the park
(beneficial to the human structure) can often help one to regain mental
focus and contribute to psychological wellbeing, and so forth. In
recognizing the fundamental interplay of these myriad factors, we strive
to practice in a truly holistic fashion.
